SECTION A–TECHNICAL INFORMATION
INTRODUCTION The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is one of the leading scientific research and technology development organisations in Africa. In partnership with national and international research and technology institutions, CSIR undertakes directed and multidisciplinary research and technology innovation that contributes to the improvement of the quality of life of South Africans. The CSIR’s main site is in Pretoria while it is represented in other provinces of South Africa through regional offices.Proposals are hereby invited from suitably-qualified,Professional Registered (ECSA,CESA) Electrical Engineering Practices for the Assessment, Redesign of the existing power factor correction and Installationthereof.
BACKGROUND The CSIR main intake substation connects to the City of Tshwane grid via a 132Kv line from the Scientia switching station. Themain substation at CSIR has 2 x 15 MVA transformersand both supply 11Kv to a solid busbar via two 11Kv Oil circuit breakers.On the 11Kv side there is Power factor correction equipment connected in the following configuration.Power factor 11Kv Feeder 1 feeds to first three banks.Power factor 11Kv Feeder 2 feeds to last three banks.One controller controls all six banks of capacitors.
INVITATION FORPROPOSAL Proposals are hereby invited from suitably-qualified,Professional Registered (ECSA, CESA) Electrical Engineering Practices for the Assessment, Redesign of the existing power factor correction and Installationthereof (stage 1 to 6, as per gazetted ECSA guidelines).The estimated electrical construction value of this project is R2 300 000.00. Fees will be adjusted accordingly, based on the final electrical construction cost of the project.
