The Central Supplier Database (CSD) is the South African Government’s central database of businesses and individuals that want to supply goods or services to government departments, municipalities and other organs of state.
If your business intends to apply for government tenders, quotations or other public-sector procurement opportunities, you should register on the CSD. Many government tender and RFQ processes require suppliers to have an active CSD registration before they can be considered for an award.
Where do I register?
Registration is completed online through the official National Treasury CSD website at https://secure.csd.gov.za/. Registration is free and can be completed directly by the supplier.
During registration, you may need to provide information such as:
- Your company or identification details
- CIPC registration information
- SARS and tax information
- Business address and contact details
- Bank account details
- Directors or members
- B-BBEE information
- The goods and services your business supplies
- The provinces, municipalities or areas where you can deliver those goods or services
- Relevant industry accreditations or registrations
Once your registration has been successfully submitted, your supplier will receive a CSD Supplier Number and a Unique Registration Reference Number.
Why is CSD registration important?
Government institutions use the CSD as a central source of verified supplier information. Information can be checked against organisations such as SARS, CIPC, the Department of Home Affairs and participating banks, helping procurement officials confirm that suppliers are legitimate and that their information is up to date.
Being registered also makes it easier for government procurement officials to identify suppliers that provide particular products or services.
Tips when registering
Make sure that your company name, registration details, tax information and banking details match your official records. Incorrect information can result in verification problems.
Pay particular attention when selecting your commodities and delivery locations, as government officials may use these details when searching for suppliers or distributing requests for quotations.
Bank verification can also take several days, so avoid leaving your CSD registration until just before a tender closes.
Finally, remember to actually submit your supplier profile once all the information has been completed and keep your CSD information updated whenever your banking, contact, director or business information changes.
Important: CSD registration does not automatically qualify you for every tender or guarantee that you will receive government work. You must still meet the specific eligibility, compliance and technical requirements stated in each tender.
