Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to solicit quotations for the renovation of the NHLS Estcourt Laboratory, ensuring that the facility is upgraded and maintained to meet operational standards. The project aims to enhance the laboratory’s infrastructure, safety, and functionality in accordance with specified technical and safety standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes, but is not limited to:

• Renovation and refurbishment of laboratory spaces, including walls, floors, ceilings, and fixtures.
• Installation and upgrading of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Construction of partitioning, drywall, and support structures.
• Installation of doors, windows, glazing, and security features.
• Painting, tiling, and finishing works to ensure a clean, functional environment.
• Provision and fitting of laboratory furniture, cabinets, and equipment supports.
• Compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards throughout the project.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that all work must adhere to:

• National Standards and Regulations, including SABS and ISO standards.
• Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) compliance, including safety signage and risk management.
• Use of approved materials, fixtures, and fittings, with all electrical and plumbing work performed by registered professionals.
• Installation of fire-resistant and heat-resistant materials where specified.
• Proper sealing, waterproofing, and finishing to ensure durability and hygiene.
• Accurate execution of work as per approved drawings, specifications, and site instructions.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires bidders to demonstrate the following skills and qualifications:

• Registration with the CIDB in grading 2GB or higher for construction works.
• Qualified and experienced professionals in plumbing, electrical, and mechanical trades.
• Project management expertise with a proven track record of similar renovation projects in healthcare or laboratory environments.
• Ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Capacity to provide documentation such as CVs, project references, and relevant certificates.
• Knowledge of health and safety legislation and environmental regulations applicable to laboratory renovations.
