Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to replace damaged floor tiles in the boys quarters of Charles Johnson Memorial Hospital, ensuring the repair and maintenance of the facility to meet safety and quality standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Removal of existing damaged tiles in specified areas such as passages, dining hall, entrances, kitchen, and rooms.
• Preparation of floors to ensure proper adhesion and finish.
• Installation of new slip-resistant, fully body porcelain tiles measuring 300mm x 300mm x 10mm in designated areas.
• Installation of porcelain tile skirting around rooms, walls, and pillars with specified spacing.
• Painting of walls with peach high gloss enamel paint with a 12-year warranty.
• Repair of leaks, replacement of broken fixtures, and damaged tiles in bathrooms.
• Site clearance and waste disposal following regulations.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications mandate:

• Use of SABS and SANAS approved materials, including tiles, cement, grout, and liquid.
• Proper preparation and leveling of floors before tiling.
• Installation of tiles with spacing between 3mm and 5mm, ensuring flatness and square alignment.
• Use of approved adhesives and grouts.
• Application of high gloss enamel paint on specified walls.
• Compliance with all relevant health, safety, and building standards, including Occupational Health and Safety Act 85/1993.
• Completion within a contract period of six weeks, with a guarantee of 12 months on tiles and workmanship.

Skills Requirements

The contractor must possess:

• CIDB grading of 3GB or above.
• Qualified and experienced tilers skilled in laying porcelain tiles and skirting.
• Workmen trained in health and safety regulations applicable to construction and renovation projects.
• Capability to prepare surfaces, install tiles, and perform finishing works to high standards.
• Ability to coordinate site activities, ensure quality control, and adhere to project timelines.
