Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to construct a shade net structure for a freezer link frozen foods facility on the Farm Kanolvlei near Wupperthal. The project aims to deliver a 2.27-hectare shade net structure with specified materials and construction standards, including the installation of wooden poles, shade netting, gates, and site preparation, within a contract period of 120 days.

Scope

The scope of works includes:

• Site clearance, vegetation removal, and ground leveling with a 2% fall from North to South.
• Construction of a shade net structure covering 2.27 hectares, using CCA treated wooden poles, high-quality wire support, and green shade netting (40% sides, 20% roof).
• Installation of double gates, including galvanised framework and fencing material.
• Provision of all materials, machinery, and labour necessary for construction.
• Site security, storage sheds, temporary latrines, and site cleaning.
• Adherence to safety, security, and environmental protocols, including fire prevention and site rehabilitation.
• Compliance with specified timelines, including site handover on 24 March 2026 and project completion by 27 July 2026.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications for the project include:

• Use of 150–175mm diameter corner posts and 125–150mm external posts, all CCA treated, spaced at 6m intervals.
• Concrete anchors of 20 Mpa strength buried at a minimum depth of 1200mm.
• High stainless steel (6mm) top and cross wires, galvanised side wiring (2.24mm), spaced at 500mm, tensioned and pleated like curtains.
• Shade netting: 40% green shade net on sides, knitted to SABS standard 1703, and 20% shade net on roof.
• Double gates constructed from galvanised framework (32x32x3mm) with hexagonal fencing, hinges, locks, and concrete blocks.
• Site preparation including vegetation removal, site leveling with specified fall, and ensuring site safety and security.
• Provision of temporary facilities such as storage sheds and latrines, and site cleanup after completion.

Skills Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate:

• Experience in constructing shade net structures or similar infrastructure projects, with references and proof of previous work (minimum project value R500,000).
• Competency of the construction manager, including relevant CVs and proof of compliance with Construction Regulations 2014 Clause 8.
• CIDB registration with a minimum grading of 2GB or higher for construction works.
• Capability to mobilize resources, machinery, and labour within 7 days of appointment.
• Ability to submit labour log sheets and comply with local employment regulations, including employing at least 35% local labour from within 50km radius.
• Provision of construction insurance and adherence to health and safety standards.
• Knowledge of environmental management, site safety, and security protocols.
