Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure an annual service for fire extinguishers and hose reels at Bethesda Hospital. The service aims to ensure the proper maintenance, inspection, testing, and certification of firefighting equipment to prolong their lifespan, ensure safety compliance, and maintain operational readiness.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Annual servicing, repair, recharge, and hydrostatic testing of portable and fixed fire extinguishers and hose reels.
• Inspection, numbering, recording, and proper demarcation of all firefighting equipment in various hospital locations.
• Painting and signposting of equipment in accordance with SANS standards.
• Provision of certificates for hydrostatic tests and inspections.
• Replacement of fire extinguisher safety storage markings and hose reel signage where necessary.
• Maintenance of an inventory and maintenance record of all firefighting equipment.
• Adherence to specified standards such as SANS 1475 and SAQCC fire accreditation.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that the service provider must:

• Be accredited with SABS/SANS 1475 and SAQCC fire certification for service technicians.
• Hold valid CIDB registration (category SF & SO), FFETA membership, and DoL proof of good standing.
• Provide proof of B-BBEE status, valid tax clearance, and compliance with relevant standards.
• Use only SABS-approved powders with a minimum of 70% MAP content for dry chemical extinguishers.
• Perform hydrostatic and pressure tests on fire extinguishers and submit certificates.
• Ensure all work is performed by trained, accredited technicians in accordance with SANS codes and SAQCC standards.
• Provide fixed prices for recharge, hydro-test, and replacement parts, valid for the duration of the contract.
• Maintain detailed service records, certificates, and inventory documentation.

Skills Requirements

The service provider must possess:

• Qualified technicians with SABS/SANS 1475 accreditation and SAQCC fire certification.
• Technical expertise in servicing, testing, and repairing various types of fire extinguishers and hose reels.
• Experience in compliance with SANS standards and hospital safety protocols.
• Capability to produce and submit certification, inspection reports, and maintenance records.
• Ability to perform on-site servicing, repairs, and provide technical advice and training to hospital staff.
• Proven track record in fire safety equipment maintenance within healthcare or similar environments.
