Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to engage a qualified contractor to dismantle and dispose of the Liebherr LR-1350-1 crawler crane at A-Berth, Port of Cape Town, on a once-off basis. The contractor must demonstrate capability to safely and efficiently carry out the dismantling, transportation, and disposal activities within the specified timeframe.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Dismantling of the crawler crane, including counterweights, boom sections, superstructure, and crawler assemblies.
• Segregation of scrap materials and proper handling of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
• Preparation and submission of method statements, lift studies, rigging calculations, and detailed programmes.
• Disposal of dismantled components at approved landfill sites or facilities compliant with environmental regulations.
• Completion of all activities within a three-month period from the date of purchase order.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Traceable reference letters confirming previous successful similar projects (minimum of 3 references).
• A comprehensive method statement addressing all five minimum aspects:
• Dismantling sequence (counterweights, boom sections, superstructure, crawler assemblies)
• Engineered lift studies, crane selection, load charts, and rigging calculations
• Segregation of scrap materials
• Safety and quality controls at each stage
• Disposal procedures and compliance with environmental standards
• A detailed Level 3 programme demonstrating the ability to execute all activities within the specified timeframe.
• Submission of a project-specific dismantling and disposal methodology.

Skills Requirements

The contractor must possess:

• Proven experience in dismantling large crawler cranes or similar heavy equipment, supported by reference letters.
• Technical expertise in lift planning, rigging, and segregation of waste materials.
• Ability to prepare detailed method statements and programmes aligned with project requirements.
• Knowledge of environmental regulations and waste disposal procedures.
• Compliance with safety standards and quality controls throughout the project.
• Capability to coordinate logistics and disposal at approved landfill sites.
