Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to secure a service provider capable of delivering laundry services for seven technical departments within Transnet Port Terminals at Richards Bay. The contract aims to ensure the cleanliness and safety of employees' personal protective equipment (PPE) and other laundry items, thereby promoting health, safety, and operational efficiency over a period of five (5) months, with some provisions extending to eight (8) months for certain workshops.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Provision of laundry services for seven technical departments: MHA, Import, Facilities, Storage, Export, Shop 5, and HT Workshops.
• Collection of laundry from designated departments on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
• Washing, drying, ironing, folding, and packing of laundry items contaminated with dirt such as oil, grease, mud, coal, etc.
• Delivery of clean laundry back to respective departments three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday).
• Provision of packaging materials, including clear plastic for individual packing.
• Adherence to safety, health, and environmental standards during service delivery.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Services to be performed at the service provider’s premises.
• Collection and delivery to be coordinated with TPT personnel, with proof of collection and delivery signed off by supervisors.
• Handling laundry contaminated with various substances using quality detergents and fabric softeners.
• Ironing, folding, and packing to prevent damage or burns.
• Provision of laundry for PPE and other items, organized by categories.
• Minimum workshop equipment including storage compartments.
• Compliance with SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, Quality) standards, including submission of safety documentation and risk assessments.
• Timely delivery and collection management, with confirmation letters on company letterhead.

Skills Requirements

The service provider must demonstrate:

• Experience in laundry services, particularly handling contaminated PPE and industrial laundry.
• Qualified personnel, including a Safety Officer with relevant safety policies, safety system overview, risk assessment methodology, and competency plans.
• Organizational safety structure with clear roles, responsibilities, and authority levels.
• Ability to meet environmental and safety legislation, including mandatory SHEQ induction for staff.
• Capability to provide proof of insurance, good standing, and safety policies.
• Effective communication and coordination skills for collection, processing, and delivery schedules.
• Technical competence in operating laundry machinery and managing logistics within a port environment.
