Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply, deliver, and off-load galvanised steel transmission poles, streetlighting poles, brackets, luminaire adaptors, outreach arms, extension brackets, and related accessories to the City of Cape Town. The contract aims to ensure the procurement of high-quality steel poles and associated components that meet specified standards for use in municipal infrastructure projects over a period of 36 months.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Manufacture, testing, and supply of galvanised steel transmission and streetlighting poles of various lengths and specifications (heavy duty, vandal resistant, light duty).
• Provision of brackets, luminaire adaptors (short and long side entry, various angles), outreach arms, extension brackets, and access cover plates.
• Delivery, packing, off-loading, and installation support for poles and accessories at designated municipal sites.
• Compliance with relevant standards (SANS 62, 121, 1088, 657, etc.) and technical specifications.
• Provision of detailed technical data, drawings, design calculations, and certification from registered engineers.
• Adherence to quality assurance, galvanising, and safety requirements throughout manufacturing and delivery.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Manufacture of poles from steel with a minimum yield stress of 450 MPa, complying with SANS 657-1 and SANS 50025-2.
• Design calculations supported by certified structural engineers, including wind load derivations and ultimate moment capacities.
• Poles must be hot-dip galvanised in accordance with SANS 121, with a bright zinc finish and no defects such as white rust or discolouration.
• Poles and brackets must be manufactured to specified dimensions, with smooth, rounded edges, and support full compliance with drawings and specifications.
• Provision of detailed drawings, manufacturing certifications, and quality assurance documentation.
• Use of approved galvanising permits and adherence to standards for corrosion protection.
• Delivery packing must protect against damage, with crates marked for handling and transport compliance.
• All components must meet specified load, deflection, and wind resistance criteria as per SANS standards.
