Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure rigging and crane hire services for Tippler 01 and associated route (2026 shutdown) at Transnet Port Terminals in Richards Bay. The services aim to support maintenance, repairs, and operational activities such as conveyor belt replacements, pulley and hydraulic component repairs, and structural repairs during the annual shutdown period.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Rigging and crane hire services for Tippler 01 and the chrome route during the 2026 annual shutdown at Port Rail Terminal, Richards Bay.
• Work on components such as shafts, clamps, spillage plates, brake calipers, hopper grids, conveyor belts, pulleys, bearings, drive systems, and structural repairs.
• Provision of qualified rigging teams and cranes to perform tasks like lifting heavy components, replacing hydraulic parts, belt splicing, pulley lagging, structural repairs, and ensuring safety during maintenance activities.
• Duration of services: 14 days, 16 hours per day (from 06:00 to 22:00).

Technical Requirements

The technical scope mandates:

• Provision of qualified riggers with proof of certification (minimum of 3 riggers with rigging certificates, LEEASA accreditation).
• Availability of cranes: 160-ton, 50-ton, and 8-ton cranes, with proof of equipment or lease agreements.
• Experience in major rigging projects with at least 2 purchase orders valued at a minimum of R1 million.
• Compliance with relevant standards and specifications including:
• National & International Standards for load-lifting attachments, chain blocks, chain lever hoists, lift trucks, slings, wire ropes, and hoists (e.g., SANS 687, SANS 500, SANS 10388, SANS 94-1, SANS 94-2, SANS 2408, SANS 1636, SANS 1594, ISO 3056, SANS 7592, SANS 1592).
• Adherence to Transnet’s SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) specifications and quality management standards.
• Inspection, examination, and testing of equipment as per applicable standards.
• Implementation of safety measures, PPE requirements, and site access protocols.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires:

• Qualified rigging personnel with valid certification and proof of competency (minimum of 3 riggers).
• Experience in handling large-scale rigging and crane operations, demonstrated through previous major projects and purchase orders.
• Proficiency in operating and maintaining cranes of specified capacities (160t, 50t, 8t).
• Knowledge of relevant safety standards, inspection, and testing procedures.
• Ability to coordinate with technical and safety personnel, ensuring compliance with SHEQ standards and site safety protocols.
