Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure large, medium, and infant body bags to meet the needs of Osindweni Hospital within the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health. The procurement aims to ensure availability of certified, high-quality body bags that meet technical specifications and safety standards, supporting effective management of deceased bodies in the healthcare setting.

Scope

The scope encompasses the supply and delivery of:

• Body bags in three categories: large, medium, and infant sizes.
• A total quantity of 1,450 units, distributed across the specified sizes.
• Provision of certified products compliant with relevant standards (SABS/SANS).
• Delivery to Osindisweni Hospital, with samples and documentation as specified.

The procurement process includes evaluation stages covering administrative compliance, technical specifications, capacity to deliver, price, preference points, and submission of samples.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications for the body bags are as follows:

• Manufactured from virgin white biodegradable polypropylene (water-resistant and extremely resistant).
• Material thickness: 120 microns.
• Color: White.

  • U-shaped polyester zip closure for easy placement of bodies.

  • Absorbent pad attached inside to absorb body fluids, extending from head to knees.
  • Luggage label at the bottom right on the top surface, size 12cm x 9cm.

Suppliers must provide samples, operating manuals, and proof of certification (SABS/SANS). All products must conform to the specified standards and specifications.

Skills and Skills Requirements

The tender requires bidders to demonstrate:

• Proven capability to supply certified medical-grade body bags in the specified sizes and quantities.
• Experience in manufacturing or supplying medical waste management products, with references from other health institutions or clinicians.
• Ability to provide samples that meet technical specifications for evaluation.

• Capacity to deliver within the stipulated contract period and to provide after-sales support, including manuals and training if required.
• Understanding of procurement policies, including preference points system and declaration of interests.
