Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to engage a qualified contractor to undertake the overhaul of critical valves and pumps onboard six harbour vessels in the Port of Cape Town. The work aims to ensure vessel integrity, compliance with classification society standards, and readiness for SAMSA surveys.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Provision of all labour, tooling, and materials necessary for the removal, overhaul, pressure testing, and refitting of specified valves and pumps.
• Work to be performed onboard the vessels at ship repair facilities in Cape Town.
• Overhaul processes such as stripping, cleaning, inspection of seats and internals, lapping sealing faces, replacing gaskets, reassembly with lubrication, and priming external surfaces.
• Replacement of worn parts, bearing checks, seal replacements, and management of associated pipework or fittings.
• Refitting of all valves and pumps, including management of pipework and fittings, with components suitable for the marine environment.
• All work must be approved by the TNPA Engineer prior to execution.
• Testing and certification of work by a SAMSA surveyor, with all associated costs borne by the contractor.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that:

• All components must be suitable for the marine environment.
• Missing, corroded, or damaged bolts and studs shall be replaced.
• Work must include pressure testing and certification by a SAMSA surveyor.
• Valves and pumps include various types such as sea chest valves, bilge valves, sewage valves, globe valves, butterfly valves, and others, with specific dimensions and specifications provided.
• Overhaul procedures include stripping, cleaning, inspection, replacement of parts, and reassembly.

Skills Requirements

The contractor must possess:

• Qualified personnel experienced in marine valve and pump overhaul.
• Capability to perform pressure testing and obtain SAMSA certification.
• Proficiency in handling various valve types and sizes as specified.
• Ability to work onboard vessels in a marine environment, adhering to safety and quality standards.
• Knowledge of marine standards and regulations related to valve and pump maintenance.
