Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply materials and repair the sewing machines in the laundry department at Catherine Booth Hospital. The aim is to ensure the proper functioning of laundry sewing equipment through timely repairs and provision of necessary materials, thereby maintaining operational efficiency.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Supply of materials required for sewing machine repairs.
• Repair of two specified sewing machines: Harrison 20U43 and Kingstar KS8700 (model unspecified).
• Testing of repaired equipment in the presence of laundry supervisors and maintenance representatives.
• Cleaning of the work area post-repair.
• Provision of labor, travel, consumables, and spare parts as needed.
• Guarantee of installed and repaired equipment for specified periods.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Supply of new, high-quality, and recent model sewing machines and parts.
• Models to include Harrison 20U43 (Model: 180903086) and Kingstar KS8700 (no model number specified).
• All materials and components must be SABS approved and compliant with relevant standards such as SANS 0142, SANS 10400, and SANS 10252-1&2.
• Heavy-duty galvanizing and corrosion-resistant finishes for environmental protection.
• Proper environmental protection for components against high corrosive conditions.
• Qualified and certified artisans and technicians to perform repairs, with proof of registration and qualifications attached.
• Adherence to safety standards, including OHS Act, SAQCC, CIDB certification, and relevant safety regulations.
• Guarantee periods: 12 months for installed equipment and 6 months for repairs.
• Inspection and testing of equipment before and after repairs.

Skills Requirements

The contractor must demonstrate:

• Qualified and certified artisans and technicians with relevant experience in sewing machine repair and maintenance.
• Proof of registration with the Department of Labour, SAQCC certification, and CIDB rating.
• Competent personnel capable of testing, servicing, maintaining, and repairing equipment to high standards.
• Ability to provide detailed operation and maintenance manuals.
• Experience in working within healthcare environments, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
• Local labour employment, including unskilled workers, in coordination with hospital management.
