Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to construct sanitation facilities at Toise Senior Secondary School in the Eastern Cape Province under the Sanitation 60 Programme. The project aims to deliver fully functional sanitation infrastructure, including ablution facilities, water supply, drainage, and associated works, to improve hygiene and sanitation standards at the school.

Scope

The scope encompasses a comprehensive range of construction activities, including:

• Demolition of existing structures and asbestos removal
• Earthworks, excavation, and earth filling
• Construction of foundations, masonry, and concrete structures
• Waterproofing and damp proofing of walls and floors
• Roof coverings, carpentry, and joinery
• Installation of doors, windows, and ironmongery
• Plumbing, drainage, and sanitary fittings
• Electrical and mechanical works such as rainwater tanks and stormwater drainage
• Finishing works including plastering, painting, and signage
• External works including site clearance, earthworks for ramps, pathways, and landscaping

The project also includes provisional sums for work by local SMMEs, testing, and safety measures.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify adherence to:

• Standard JBCC Principal Building Agreement and associated data
• South African standards (SABS/SANS) for materials and workmanship
• Environmental and safety regulations, including asbestos handling and removal
• Quality assurance measures, including testing of concrete cubes and materials
• Use of proprietary products as specified, with prior approval for substitutes
• Proper site management, including temporary works, safety signage, and security
• Implementation of waterproofing, damp proofing, and stormwater management
• Provision of temporary facilities such as site offices, storage, and sanitation during construction

Skills and Skills Requirements

The tender requires contractors and their teams to possess:

• Experience in large-scale institutional construction projects, particularly sanitation facilities
• Competence in demolition, asbestos removal, earthworks, and reinforced concrete works
