Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to construct a shade net structure for Cold Mountain Farming near Stanford. The project aims to provide a functional shade net of size 66 x 66 meters, built with CCA treated wooden poles and 40% green shade netting, to support agricultural activities. The successful bidder must deliver the complete structure, including all materials, labor, and machinery, within the specified contract period.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Site preparation: vegetation removal, site levelling, and ensuring proper site falls.
• Construction of the shade net structure with CCA treated wooden poles, anchored with galvanised steel cables and concrete bases where applicable.
• Installation of high-quality stainless steel wire support and tensioning of shade cloth.
• Fitting of double gates with galvanised framework and fencing material, including locks and hinges.
• Site cleanup and ensuring safety and security measures are in place during construction.
• Adherence to specified contract period of 2 months, starting within 7 days of appointment.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Construction of a 66 x 66m shade net structure using CCA treated round poles (5400mm long) with specified diameters.
• Anchoring poles with galvanised 8mm stainless steel cables fixed at angles, driven into the ground with steel bars at a minimum depth of 900mm.
• Installation of 40% green knitted shade net conforming to SABS standard 1703 Edition 1.02 - 2003, fastened securely to prevent billowing.
• Construction of double gates with galvanised framework and fencing, including lockable bolts and hinges.
• Site levelling with a final fall of 2% from North to South, and vegetation clearance.
• Provision for security, storage sheds, temporary latrines, and safety measures including fire prevention and signage.
• Compliance with health and safety regulations, environmental considerations, and site-specific risk management.

Skills Requirements

The tenderer must demonstrate:

• Experience in constructing similar shade net structures, with a minimum of 80% functional score based on experience and references.
• Proven competency of a construction manager, including relevant CV and proof of competency in construction regulations and safety standards.
• Capability to mobilize resources quickly, with capacity to start within 7 days of appointment.
• Ability to provide all necessary construction equipment, tools, and machinery, and ensure safety and quality standards are met throughout the project.
• Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations, including POPI Act compliance and risk management.
• Capability to submit all required documentation, including company profile, CIDB registration (minimum grade 2GB), COIDA good standing, and B-BBEE certification.
