Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to provide expert advice and develop plans for the stabilization and erosion control of the Grashoek River. This includes assessing sediment displacement caused by recent flood events, recommending rehabilitation strategies for riverbanks, and analyzing water resource changes influenced by climate patterns. The aim is to prevent further erosion, sedimentation, and damage to adjacent lands, ensuring the river system is restored as close as possible to its pre-flood condition.

Scope

The scope encompasses:

• Conducting comprehensive catchment analysis, including tributaries.
• Providing advice on sediment management and obstacles displaced during floods.
• Developing rehabilitation plans for riverbanks and stream alignment.
• Analyzing hydrological and hydraulic aspects of the river system, considering changing rainfall and runoff patterns.
• Preparing detailed reports and plans for river stabilization and sediment removal.
• Starting work within 7 days of appointment and completing the project within 4 months.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Provision of expert advice and detailed plans for erosion control and river rehabilitation.
• Analysis of flood impacts, sediment transport, and riverbank stability.
• Designing practical, durable, and reliable stabilization solutions aligned with environmental standards.
• Assessment of rocky ground and flood-prone conditions, with necessary precautions.
• Delivering a lump sum bid covering all labor, machinery, and associated costs.
• Ensuring the capacity to commence work promptly and adhere to the project timeline.

Skills Requirements

The bidder must possess:

• Proven experience in hydrological and hydraulic engineering, specifically in river stabilization and wetland systems.
• Demonstrated successful projects related to river protection and erosion control in South Africa or similar environments.
• Strong analytical skills for catchment and water resource analysis considering climate variability.
• Technical expertise in sediment management, riverbank stabilization, and flood damage assessment.
• Capacity to produce detailed technical reports, plans, and recommendations.
• Ability to mobilize resources quickly and work under challenging conditions, including rocky terrains and flood-prone areas.
