Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified service provider to undertake water quality management for SAFCOL's operations over a period of three years. The provider will ensure compliance with relevant standards such as SANS 241, manage water treatment processes, monitor water quality, and implement corrective measures to maintain water safety and environmental standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Provision of controllable dosing systems and water treatment chemicals (SABS approved).
• Sampling and analysis of water from various sites including potable water and wastewater treatment plants across multiple plantations and regions.
• Laboratory testing, analysis of results, and implementation of corrective actions where deviations from standards are identified.
• Monitoring of chemical residuals, bacteriological parameters, and other relevant water quality indicators.
• Reporting results to designated SAFCOL business units and infrastructure sections.
• Managing water treatment equipment and ensuring compliance with legal and environmental standards.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the service provider include:

• Application of skills, expertise, and experience in water quality management.
• Use of approved chemicals and equipment capable of dosage adjustments.
• Regular sampling at specified locations, with bacteriological and chemical analyses conducted monthly and quarterly as per wastewater and potable water standards.
• Analysis of laboratory results and submission of detailed reports.
• Implementation of corrective measures based on test results and deviations from standards.
• Availability of laboratory testing results to SAFCOL and adherence to relevant legislation such as the Water Services Act and SANS 241.
• Provision of qualified personnel with relevant certifications and undertaking medical assessments and security clearances where applicable.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Experience in water quality management, supported by reference letters and client testimonials (minimum 2 years, with preference for more than 3 years).
• Relevant qualifications such as a National Diploma or Degree in Water Care, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, or Water Utilization.
• Capability to perform sampling, laboratory analysis, and report writing.
• Knowledge of legal and environmental standards related to water quality and wastewater management.
• Ability to develop and implement corrective measures and provide guidance on water treatment processes.
• Qualified personnel with experience in operating and managing water treatment equipment and dosing systems.
• Compliance with security, health, and safety regulations, including security clearances and occupational health requirements.
