Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to construct a 36-meter reinforced concrete pedestrian bridge in Zambia, specifically within the Amaoti Ward 57 area. The project aims to deliver a durable, safe, and functional pedestrian crossing structure that integrates with the existing infrastructure and meets the specified design standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Design and construction of a single-span reinforced concrete U-beam pedestrian bridge.
• Preparation of foundation works, including securing foundations with CFA piles.
• Installation of abutments, piers, and deck components as per the detailed drawings and specifications.
• Incorporation of drainage features such as weep holes, drainage pipes, and geotextile fabric.
• Implementation of safety features including parapet walls and barrier reinforcements.
• Site preparation, including land and servitude acquisitions, underground services check, and setting out coordinates.
• Compliance with all relevant standards, codes, and engineer approvals throughout the construction process.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements encompass:

• Construction of a single span concrete U-beam bridge with integral abutments.
• Design based on limit state method, following TMH7 Part 3 code.
• Use of materials with specified strengths: mild steel (250 MPa), high-yield steel (450 MPa), concrete strengths of 30/19 MPa for abutments, piers, and deck.
• Foundation depths to be determined on-site, secured with 400mm diameter CFA piles.
• Inclusion of drainage features such as perforated drainage pipes wrapped in geotextile, weep holes, and filter elements.
• Construction of parapet walls with a thickness of 300mm and proper fill material compaction to 93% MOD AASHTO.
• All dimensions and coordinates to be verified on-site prior to construction.
• Adherence to detailed drawings, including longitudinal and cross-sectional plans, and setting out co-ordinates.

Skills Requirements

The successful contractor and team should possess:

• Experience in reinforced concrete bridge construction, particularly single-span U-beam bridges.
• Proficiency in geotechnical and foundation works, including CFA pile installation.
• Knowledge of drainage system installation and integration into bridge structures.
• Ability to interpret and execute detailed structural and layout drawings accurately.
• Skills in site surveying, setting out, and coordinate verification.
• Compliance with safety standards and quality control procedures.
• Capability to coordinate with municipal and engineering authorities for land, servitude, and underground services clearance.
