Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to construct a 36-meter reinforced concrete pedestrian bridge over the Mhlathuzana River in Nazareth Ward 16. The project aims to provide a safe, reliable crossing for residents, enhancing connectivity within the community. It will facilitate access to public transportation, schools, medical facilities, and local economic activities, thereby improving mobility, social services access, and economic participation.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Design and construction of a 36-meter reinforced concrete pedestrian bridge over the Mhlathuzana River.
• Site preparation, including setting out and co-ordinate confirmation.
• Provision of all necessary structural, civil, and safety features as per engineering and structural drawings.
• Management of underground services to avoid damage during construction.
• Implementation of health, safety, and environmental management measures.
• Provision of construction employee facilities, signage, and safety measures.
• Coordination with land and servitude acquisitions prior to construction.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements encompass:

• Construction of a single-span, conventionally reinforced concrete U-beam bridge with integral abutments.
• Use of materials compliant with specified standards (e.g., TMH7 Part 3, TMH7, TMH7, TMH7).
• Design based on limit state method, with specified reinforcement (mild steel 250 MPa, high-yield steel 450 MPa).
• Foundations to be secured with CFA piles, with depths determined on-site.
• Structural elements including abutments, piers, deck, and parapet walls to meet specified dimensions and strength requirements.
• Electrical installations controlled by a competent electrician, inspected weekly.
• Provision of fire safety measures, signage, and emergency procedures.
• Proper stacking, storage, and housekeeping practices on site.
• Implementation of hazard identification, risk assessments, and safety management plans.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires the following skills and competencies:

• Competent construction manager with demonstrated experience in similar infrastructure projects.
• Part-time construction health and safety officer with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
• Qualified construction supervisors responsible for ensuring occupational health and safety compliance across different sections of the project.
• Registered electrical installer or contractor for electrical installations.
• Skilled personnel for hazard risk assessment, incident investigation, firefighting, and first aid.
• Personnel trained in the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency response, and site safety protocols.
• Qualified professionals for structural design, geotechnical assessment, and site supervision.
• Experienced team for site housekeeping, stacking, storage, and general safety management.
