Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to upgrade the stormwater infrastructure along Heaton Nicholls Drive in Pinetown, Ward 18. This includes the installation of new stormwater drainage systems, protection works, and reinstatement of the road surface to ensure effective water management, safety, and minimal disruption to the area.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses:

• Design and construction of a stormwater drainage system with 1200mm x 1500mm portal culverts and gabion protection works (2 meters high) along the Umbilo River within Heaton Nicholls Drive.
• Traffic management, water diversion, site clearance, and protection of existing services (telephone, electricity, water, stormwater, telecommunication cables).
• Relocation and removal of trees, concrete elements, roadways, sidewalks, kerbs, and underground pipes as directed by the Engineer.
• Open trench excavation, shoring, temporary fencing, and laying of stormwater pipes with backfilling and testing.
• Construction of stormwater manholes, gabion protection works, concrete retaining walls, and reinstatement of disturbed areas.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Implementation of a comprehensive health and safety plan, including risk assessment, hazard identification, and monitoring.
• Construction of specific infrastructure components such as portal culverts, gabion protection, concrete pipes, manholes, and retaining walls.
• Adherence to specified standards for excavation, backfilling, compaction, and testing.
• Proper management of existing services and environmental considerations.
• Compliance with relevant regulations, including Occupational Health & Safety Act and Construction Regulations.

Skills Requirements

The tender requires contractors to demonstrate:

• Experience in large-scale stormwater infrastructure projects, including pipe installation, gabion works, and road reinstatement.
• Competence in excavation, shoring, and working with concrete and gabion materials.
• Capability to manage traffic diversions, site safety, and environmental protection.
• Ability to coordinate with various service providers and adhere to health and safety regulations.
• Qualified personnel for supervision, site management, and technical execution.
