Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to hire earth moving plant to facilitate the lifting of the Kamfersdam submerged line in Kimberley. The overarching goal is to ensure efficient, environmentally compliant, and safe construction activities that adhere to Transnet’s environmental and safety standards.

Scope

The scope of this tender encompasses the provision and operation of earth moving plant required for lifting activities related to the Kamfersdam submerged line. It applies to contractors working on site under Transnet’s authority, including compliance with environmental management, safety, and operational standards as outlined in the specifications.

Technical Requirements

• Provision of suitable earth moving plant capable of lifting and handling the submerged line.
• Preparation of Method Statements detailing how environmental impacts will be managed during construction.
• Site establishment including location planning for facilities, laydown areas, stockpiles, and access routes, ensuring minimal environmental disturbance.
• Implementation of erosion, dust, noise, and waste management measures in line with Transnet standards.
• Proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and general waste, including spill response plans.
• Compliance with legislation related to water use, pollution control, and biodiversity conservation.
• Monitoring and record-keeping of waste disposal, water usage, and environmental impacts.

Skills Requirements

• Proficiency in operating earth moving plant and machinery suitable for lifting operations.
• Experience in environmental management and compliance, including preparation of Method Statements and environmental mitigation plans.
• Knowledge of South African environmental legislation, including NEMA, NEM:BA, and Water Act requirements.
• Ability to develop and implement waste management, spill response, and erosion control measures.
• Capacity to conduct environmental awareness training for construction personnel.
• Skills in site planning, including demarcation, facility layout, and access management to minimize environmental impact.
• Record-keeping and reporting skills related to environmental and safety compliance.
