Objectives

The primary objectives of the tender are to ensure the successful execution of electrical repairs to light fittings at the eThekwini Regional Office, with a focus on compliance with safety, health, environmental, and social standards. The project aims to reduce risks associated with electrical work, promote HIV/AIDS awareness, and facilitate labour-intensive methods aligned with EPWP guidelines.

Scope

The scope encompasses electrical repairs to light fittings within the eThekwini Regional Office, including installation, replacement, and maintenance of lighting fixtures, electrical wiring, and associated equipment. It also involves site preparation, safety management, environmental protection, HIV/AIDS awareness activities, and labour-intensive construction methods as specified for EPWP projects.

• Electrical repairs and installations as detailed in the scope of works.
• Site setup, safety measures, and environmental management.
• Implementation of labour-intensive activities under EPWP guidelines.
• Promotion of HIV/AIDS awareness and related health initiatives.

Technical Requirements

• Adherence to standard electrical specifications, lightning protection, and safety standards.
• Provision of electrical equipment such as light fittings, wiring, circuit breakers, distribution boards, and control gear.
• Compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, including safety plans, hazard assessments, and site safety protocols.
• Implementation of HIV/AIDS awareness programs and HIV/STI compliance reporting.
• Use of labour-intensive methods for excavation, installation, and site works, with specific procedures for hand excavation, backfilling, and material handling.
• Provision of site documentation, safety records, and environmental management plans.

Skills Requirements

• Registered electrical contractors with CIDB contractor grading designation of 1 EB or higher.
• Skilled personnel including electricians, site supervisors, and safety officers with relevant qualifications and experience.
• Management and supervisory staff with NQF Level 4 or 5 qualifications in civil or electrical construction, with specific skills in labour-intensive methods.
• Labourers and semi-skilled workers trained or registered in labour-intensive construction practices, with appropriate skills programs for supervision and management.
• Personnel capable of implementing HIV/AIDS awareness, health and safety protocols, and environmental management.
