Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a service provider for fire and invasive species control in Pinetown and Sherwood areas. The aim is to effectively manage and mitigate fire risks and invasive plant species, ensuring safety, environmental protection, and compliance with relevant legislation.

Scope

The scope of the project includes:

• Fire control and prevention activities within designated areas of Pinetown and Sherwood.
• Invasive species management, including identification, removal, and control measures.
• Implementation of firebreaks to prevent the spread of fire to residential and other properties.
• Adherence to occupational health and safety standards during all activities.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the service provider include:

• Compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 85 of 1993 and related regulations.
• Preparation of a health and safety file for approval by the Occupational Health and Safety Unit.
• Conducting activity risk assessments and developing written safe working procedures.
• Training employees on risk assessments and safe working procedures.
• Ensuring vehicles are in good working condition and suitable for the tasks.
• Ensuring all employees have valid medical certificates of fitness.
• Provision and mandatory use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Implementing safety precautions when working at heights, such as ladder safety.
• Installing firebreaks to prevent fire spread.
• Familiarity with hazards related to fire and invasive species control.
• Registration and good standing with the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Commissioner.
• Having adequate insurance coverage for fire-related damages and property protection.
