Objectives

The primary objective of the tender is to refurbish the Biaba Wastewater Ponds to meet high standards of construction, safety, and environmental management. The project aims to improve wastewater treatment capacity, ensure environmental protection, and promote local employment through labor-intensive methods, while complying with all relevant legislation and standards.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Earthworks, including excavation, backfilling, and site preparation
• Construction of reinforced concrete foundations, walls, and structures
• Installation of HDPE geomembrane lining systems for ponds
• Construction of guard houses, offices, and staff accommodation
• Installation of sewer pipelines, inlet works, and outlet structures
• Construction of fencing, gates, and security features
• Provision of electrical, plumbing, and instrumentation systems
• Environmental management, safety, and health compliance measures
• Site rehabilitation and landscaping

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Adherence to SANS 1200 series standards for civil, mechanical, and electrical works
• Use of approved materials such as SABS or equivalent standards for concrete, steel, plastics, and coatings
• Design and installation of geosynthetic lining systems with specified thickness and jointing procedures
• Construction of reinforced concrete structures with specified strengths and finishes
• Implementation of corrosion protection systems, including hot-dip galvanizing and protective coatings
• Installation of piping, valves, and instrumentation with specified standards and testing
• Provision of safety measures including signage, PPE, and emergency procedures
• Environmental mitigation measures including site clearance, waste management, and water conservation

• Skilled workers trained in labor-intensive construction methods, including earthworks, bricklaying, concrete work, and lining installation
• Qualified safety officers and health & safety representatives with relevant certifications and experience
• Personnel with expertise in environmental management, including waste disposal, site rehabilitation, and pollution control
• Technical staff capable of preparing and reviewing design, construction, and safety documentation
• Experience in managing subcontractors and ensuring compliance with legal and safety standards
