Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for the refurbishment of substation roofs under Isando Depot, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant upgrade works that meet Transnet's standards and legal requirements. The project aims to replace existing roofs with minimal disruption to operations, enhance safety, and ensure durability of the infrastructure.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Dismantling and removal of existing roofs at multiple substations (Cowles Dam, Plaats Traction, Rooykraal, Kleinfontien, Glenroy, Kendal, Persida, Withok, I. Preliminaries, Site, and Scope of Work as detailed in Part C3 & C4).
• Design, supply, and installation of double Howe roof trusses suitable for 9x22m buildings.
• Supply and installation of 2mm thick metal sheets on top of the trusses.
• Supply and installation of 0.8mm thick IBR roofing sheets over the metal sheets.
• Installation of closure wide and ridging to ensure weatherproofing.
• Provision of all necessary tools, accessories, and safety equipment.
• Transporting old roofs to designated storage sites.
• Adherence to safety, environmental, and site-specific requirements as outlined in the scope and site information.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Compliance with NEC3 Engineering and Construction Contract (June 2005, amended 2006 & 2013), specifically Option B (Priced contract with bill of quantities).
• Completion of all work within the specified period, with a completion date of 01 November 2025, and adherence to the programme submitted within two weeks of contract award.
• Provision of detailed method statements, safety plans, and environmental management plans.
• Design, supply, and installation of roof structures and coverings as per specifications, including the use of appropriate materials and techniques.
• Implementation of safety measures including working at heights, near live electrical equipment, and in railway operational zones, with all safety gear and protocols in place.
• Transporting old roofs to Sentrarand electrical depot for storage, ensuring safe handling and compliance with environmental standards.
• Provision of all tools, equipment, and personnel with relevant qualifications and experience, including safety harnesses, PPE, and site-specific safety training.
• Adherence to site-specific conditions, including working in wetland areas, railway operational zones, and proximity to informal settlements, with minimal disruption to train operations and local communities.
• Compliance with all legal, safety, environmental, and contractual obligations as detailed in the tender documents, scope, and site information.
