Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure cleaning services for the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure at the Umkhanyakude Sub-District (Mtubatuba) for a period of 24 months. The services aim to ensure the maintenance of cleanliness and hygiene across specified departmental facilities, including offices, workshops, garages, and guard houses, through the provision of qualified cleaning personnel and materials.

Scope

The scope encompasses the provision of all labor, materials, and equipment necessary to perform standard domestic cleaning and day-to-day maintenance at the Department’s premises located in Mtubatuba. Specific areas include:

• Office buildings (approx. 2200m²)
• Workshops (8 workshops)
• Garages (10 garages)
• Guard house (1)

The contract covers routine cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, waste collection, toilet cleaning, and special cleaning tasks as specified in the detailed scope of work.

Technical Requirements

• Provision of environmentally friendly, SABS-approved cleaning agents and disinfectants.
• Cleaning of floors (vinyl, ceramic, granolithic), carpets, glazed partitions, and external surfaces with specified frequencies (daily, weekly, bi-annual, annual).
• Maintenance of waste disposal systems, including recycling practices.
• Cleaning of toilets, kitchens, and other sanitary facilities with specified cleaning schedules and chemical use instructions.
• Provision of cleaning equipment such as mops, brooms, dusters, and protective gear.
• Adherence to health and safety standards, including PPE use and proper chemical handling.
• Regular inspections and reporting on cleaning standards and equipment condition.
• Compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and industry regulations.

Skills Requirements

• Qualified cleaning staff with experience in commercial/domestic cleaning services.
• Knowledge of environmentally friendly cleaning products and safe chemical handling.
• Ability to operate cleaning machinery such as buffing machines and carpet cleaners.
• Understanding of health and safety protocols, including PPE usage and hazard identification.
• Good communication skills for reporting and coordination with departmental staff.
• Capacity to maintain hygiene standards consistently and respond to special cleaning requests.
• Management skills to supervise cleaning staff and ensure adherence to contractual obligations.
