Objectives

Scope of Work

Technical Requirements

• CIDB Grading: Tenderers must hold a valid Contractor Grading Designation of 1ME or higher. This grading indicates the contractor’s capability in mechanical engineering works (ME) at the lowest value band (1).
• Trade Certification: Only tenderers who are Trade Tested as Fitter & Turner are eligible. This means the lead contractor or key personnel must have passed the recognised trade test for fitting and turning, demonstrating competence in machining, assembly, and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
• Compulsory Clarification Meeting: A mandatory site meeting will be held at the Regional Laundry, Cato Manor, 800 Bellair Road, Durban on 28 August 2026 at 11h00. Attendance is required to understand site conditions and specific requirements.
• Tender Documentation: Submissions must be made only on the official tender documentation issued. Emailed or late tenders will not be accepted.

Skills and Eligibility Requirements

• Valid CIDB grading of 1ME or higher (mechanical engineering).
• Trade Tested Fitter & Turner certification (proof required).
• Ability to attend the compulsory clarification meeting (representatives must be present).

Notes on Unusual Terms

CIDB Grading 1ME: The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) grading system classifies contractors by capability and financial capacity. “1” is the lowest value class (up to R1 million), and “ME” denotes Mechanical Engineering works. This ensures the contractor is registered for the appropriate type and size of work.

Trade Tested Fitter & Turner: This is a formal trade qualification in South Africa. A fitter and turner is skilled in machining metal parts, assembling machinery, and maintaining mechanical systems. The requirement ensures the contractor has the practical expertise to handle steam valve replacement safely and correctly.
