Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply, deliver, install, and commission a 3kV Traction Transformer and Auxiliary Transformer under the jurisdiction of Vereeniging Infra Depot, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with technical standards.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Provision of transformers designed for specified service conditions (altitude, temperature, humidity, pollution, lightning, and voltage variations).
• Design, manufacturing, and testing of transformers in accordance with relevant standards (e.g., SANS 60076-1, BBB5019).
• Corrosion protection, painting, and corrosion-resistant measures.
• Supply of transformer oil meeting specified chemical and electrical properties.
• Routine and type testing, including chopped wave tests, with certification.
• Preparation of detailed drawings and maintenance manuals.
• Quality assurance aligned with ISO 9000 standards.
• Supervision by experienced personnel and site management.
• Delivery, installation, and commissioning at specified site locations with adherence to site conditions and safety protocols.
• Site-specific assessments including access, environmental conditions, underground utilities, and site layout.

Technical Requirements

• Transformers rated for operation at specified voltages and fault levels (66kV, 88kV, 132kV).
• Design and construction to meet environmental and operational service conditions.
• Corrosion protection: shot blasting, painting with specified thickness, galvanizing radiators, and protective coatings.
• Transformer oil compliant with South African standards, PCB-free, with proper handling and certification.
• Routine and type testing as per SANS 60076-1, with test certificates provided.
• Design and manufacturing documentation, including drawings and manuals, approved within specified timeframes.
• Site conditions: flat terrain, potential uneven ground, underground utilities, and proximity to railway lines.
• Environmental conditions: exposure to salt-laden pollution, salt spray, and industrial smoke.
• Electrical and mechanical design to ensure safety, reliability, and ease of maintenance.

Skills and Competencies Requirements

• Proven experience in manufacturing, testing, and delivering traction and auxiliary transformers of similar size and complexity.
• Demonstrated capability in corrosion protection, painting, and environmental resilience of transformers.
• Qualified personnel including Project Managers, Supervisors, Technicians, Wiresmen, Safety Officers, SHE Reps, Flagmen, and general workers with relevant experience.
• Ability to prepare detailed Gantt charts and project schedules, demonstrating clear timelines for design, procurement, delivery, installation, and commissioning.
• Technical expertise in transformer oil handling, testing, and certification processes.
• Site assessment skills, including identification of underground utilities, site access planning, and environmental considerations.
• Quality assurance and control capabilities aligned with ISO 9000 standards.
• Strong supervision and site management skills to ensure safety, compliance, and quality during installation and commissioning.
• Experience in working within railway environments, adhering to safety protocols, and managing site-specific challenges such as uneven terrain and proximity to operational railway lines.
