Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to supply, deliver, install, and commission 3kV traction and auxiliary transformers at the Vereeniging Infra Depot, ensuring they meet specified technical, safety, and quality standards. The project aims to enhance the traction infrastructure's reliability and operational efficiency while adhering to safety, environmental, and legal requirements.

Scope

The scope encompasses the complete lifecycle of the transformers, including:

• Supply of transformers as per BBB specifications, including necessary cables, bushings, and oil.
• Delivery to the designated site in Vereeniging Infra Depot.
• Installation and commissioning of the transformers at the specified location.
• Design, corrosion protection, painting, and testing of transformers in accordance with relevant standards (e.g., SANS 60076, BBB5019).
• Provision of drawings, maintenance manuals, and quality assurance documentation.
• Site assessment, preparation, and management of site-specific conditions, including handling underground utilities and environmental challenges.

Technical Requirements

• Transformers must be rated for operation under specified service conditions: altitude (0-1800m), ambient temperature (-10°C to +55°C), humidity (10-90%), and pollution levels.
• Design and rated for the following fault levels: 66kV (20kA), 88kV (25kA), 132kV (40kA).
• Cooling type: specified as per standards, with radiators hot-dipped galvanized and painted if necessary.
• Transformer oil must meet South African major oil suppliers' specifications, PCB-free, and suitable for the application.
• Transformers to undergo routine and type testing, including chopped wave tests, with certificates provided.
• Corrosion protection: shot blasting, painting with specified thickness, and galvanization of radiators.
• Winding configurations: secondary and tertiary windings with appropriate bushings, tap-off points, and connections for auxiliary supplies.
• Site conditions: unpaved, potential uneven ground, underground utilities, and proximity to operational railway lines.

• Project Management: Experienced project managers with proven track records in transformer installation projects.
• Technical Expertise: Skilled electrical engineers, technicians, and Wiresmen familiar with transformer design, testing, and installation standards.
• Site Supervision: Supervisors with experience in managing transformer installation in challenging environments, including handling underground utilities and site safety.
• Quality Assurance: Personnel qualified in ISO 9001 standards, capable of overseeing testing, inspection, and documentation processes.
• Health and Safety: Safety officers and SHE reps with experience in high-voltage electrical works, site safety protocols, and compliance with legal and environmental standards.
• Logistics and Site Management: Skilled logistics personnel for delivery planning, site access management, and coordination with railway operations and local authorities.
• Environmental Management: Expertise in managing environmental challenges such as pollution, salt-laden atmospheres, and site-specific conditions.
