Overview
The vision of the Northern Cape Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison is to be a leader in the creation and coordination of safe, secure and sustainable transport and policing systems for a crime-free Northern Cape Province. Its mission is to enable a safe and secure environment and mobility for the community of the Northern Cape through: good corporate governance, management, administration and support; establishing and supporting community safety partnerships; monitoring and oversight of the police; facilitating and coordinating social crime prevention and road safety programmes; educating, enforcing and administering road traffic legislation; liaison with all relevant stakeholders, role-players and clients pertaining to policing, safety and security; regulated and integrated transport modes that are economically and environmentally sustainable.
The Department’s strategic outcome-orientated goals are: to support and ensure the smooth functioning of the Department; transparent and accountable law enforcement agencies in the Northern Cape by 2020; a safe and secure environment in the province by 2020; to enable and ensure effective, efficient and safe mobility in the province; to reduce road crashes and fatalities on the roads by 2019 through effective promotion, coordination and implementation of road traffic strategies and legislation; and to further enhance the overall quality of road traffic services by promoting, coordinating and implementing road traffic safety and by managing the process of vehicle registration and licencing.
