Overview

The Western Cape Department of Education is responsible for primary and secondary school education in the province, in public schools, and various specialised education services. The Department supports Grade R and subsidises private schools.

The Department’s key strategic objectives are to: improve language and mathematics performance in primary schools; increase the number and improve the quality of National Senior Certificate passes; and increase the quality of education provision in poorer communities.
