Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to establish a 12-month contract for water treatment services covering cooling systems, boilers, and domestic water at St Marys Marianhill Hospital. The goal is to ensure hospital water systems are properly treated to meet IPC protocols, prevent scale and corrosion, control biological fouling, and maintain water quality standards.

Scope

The scope includes:

• Provision of chemicals for controlling scale, corrosion, and biological fouling in cooling towers, chilled water systems, boilers, and domestic water tanks.
• Monthly on-site service visits for analysis, chemical dosing, equipment maintenance, and reporting.
• Adjustment and servicing of existing equipment at no extra cost.
• Handling and application of all chemicals by the service provider, with no chemical handling by hospital staff.
• Monitoring and maintaining specific parameters such as pH, TDS, residual chemicals, hardness, and chlorine residual.
• Water sampling and testing for microbiological contaminants twice a year.
• Provision of detailed reports and warranties for system scaling and chemical supply failures.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Supply of chemicals for cooling towers (scale, corrosion, biocides targeting Legionella), boilers (organic-based chemicals, salt for softening), and domestic water tanks (chlorine residual).
• Use of alternating biocides to prevent resistant strains.
• Monthly service visits with comprehensive on-site analysis and reporting.
• Monitoring of cooling tower tubes, softening plants, and chemical dosing equipment.
• Provision of coarse salt for water softening.
• Water treatment to maintain a free chlorine residual of 1ppm in the domestic water storage tank.
• Biannual microbiological testing by an accredited laboratory.
• Immediate notification of any system issues or failures, with corrective actions at the supplier’s expense.

Skills Requirements

The bidder must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in water treatment for hospital or similar institutional systems within the past three years, supported by reference letters or contracts.
• Qualified personnel, including a SAQCC-registered technician, to perform technical services and equipment maintenance.
• Capability to supply and handle chemicals safely, adhering to health and safety standards.
• Ability to conduct microbiological testing through an accredited laboratory.
• Knowledge of IPC protocols, water quality standards, and relevant South African legislation.
