Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to secure a 5-month contract for rendering pest control services at Victoria Mxenge Hospital (VMH). The services aim to eradicate pests such as rodents, insects, and other vermin, ensuring a safe, hygienic, and environmentally compliant environment within the hospital premises. The contract also seeks to meet legal and environmental health standards, including the proper handling and application of approved pesticides and chemicals, and to provide comprehensive pest management solutions tailored to the hospital's needs.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Provision of integrated pest control management for a period of five months.
• Eradication and control of pests including rodents, cockroaches, ants, flying insects, moth larvae, and other critters.
• Application of chemicals, gels, and bait stations in strategic areas such as wards, offices, store rooms, sewerage, storm water manholes, and external structures.
• Regular inspections, monitoring, and treatment responses to reported infestations within 24 hours.
• Use of environmentally friendly, approved chemicals with proper safety data sheets.
• Installation of disposable fly catchers and other pest control devices as specified.
• Adherence to safety, environmental, and occupational health standards, including staff training and proper PPE usage.
• Compliance with registration requirements with relevant authorities such as the Department of Agriculture, DAFF, and the South African Pest Control Association.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Registration with the Department of Agriculture under relevant acts and with the South African Pest Control Association.
• Provision of valid certificates of registration, good standing, and proof of trained personnel handling pesticides.
• Use of approved, environmentally friendly chemicals with MSDS documentation, alternated quarterly for cockroach and rodent treatments.
• Preparation and submission of a safety file complying with Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Application of chemicals in all specified areas, including internal spraying, gel treatment, sewerage, and external surfaces.
• Installation of fly catchers and regular servicing of mosquito dispensers.
• Monitoring and record-keeping of pest control activities, with signed logs and reports.
• Provision of detailed scope of work, including site-specific treatment plans and chemical types.

Skills Requirements

The skills and qualifications required for bidders include:

• Registered pest control operators with valid certification from the Department of Agriculture and DAFF.
• Membership and registration with the South African Pest Control Association.
• Personnel trained in handling pesticides and chemicals, with proof of training attached.
• Experience in hospital or healthcare pest control management.
• Ability to respond promptly to pest infestation reports within 24 hours.
• Competence in applying environmentally friendly chemicals and using pest control devices such as bait stations and fly traps.
• Capability to prepare safety documentation and comply with occupational health and safety standards.
• Record-keeping and reporting skills for pest control activities, logs, and compliance documentation.
