Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure indirect ophthalmoscopes that meet specified technical standards for use in ophthalmology departments across regional and tertiary hospitals. The procurement aims to ensure the supply of high-quality, technologically advanced, and reliable equipment to facilitate retinal examinations and related ophthalmic procedures.

Scope

The scope of the tender includes the supply of indirect ophthalmoscopes, encompassing all necessary accessories, optional extras, and supporting documentation. The equipment is intended for use in various hospital settings within KwaZulu-Natal, specifically at the McCord Provincial Eye Hospital, with delivery, installation, and optional maintenance services covered under the contract. The procurement covers both the core equipment and optional accessories, upgrades, and service agreements as specified in the technical and commercial specifications.

Technical Requirements

• The ophthalmoscope must incorporate the latest technology, including LED illumination, high contrast optics, and wireless battery operation.
• Lightweight, portable, and well-balanced design for user comfort and ease of use.
• Adjustable aperture, automatic mirror, and optical system for stereoscopic 3D retinal views.
• Adjustable pupillary distance of at least 52-76mm.
• Built-in infrared and ultraviolet filters, soft light diffuser, and attachable high magnification lens (minimum 1.6X).
• Attachable teaching mirror and foot pedal activation for digital models.
• Rechargeable lithium batteries with a minimum of 11 hours of operational life.
• Wall-mountable charger and portable protective casing included.
• Compliance with specified standards (H.T.S. NO E 252) and inclusion of all essential fittings.
• Support for future upgrades (hardware/software) at no additional cost.
• Complete user operation and maintenance manuals, repair manuals, and technical data sheets.
• Support for optional accessories and optional extras with inclusive pricing.
• Equipment must have Radiation Control Licence where applicable.
• Warranty period of at least 24 months and a comprehensive 3-year maintenance and service agreement.
