Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for the after-service repair of the kitchen cold room at Ekuhlengeni Psychiatric Hospital. The aim is to ensure the cold room is restored to optimal working condition, complying with technical standards and safety regulations, and to maintain the hospital’s operational efficiency.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Inspection and assessment of the existing kitchen cold room.
• Repair and maintenance of the cold room, including replacing damaged components such as condensers.
• Re-gassing the refrigeration system with R22 refrigerant.
• Ensuring the refrigeration system functions correctly before handover.
• Adherence to site safety, environmental standards, and hospital protocols during execution.

The work must be carried out on-site at Ekukhuleni Psychiatric Hospital, with minimal disruption to hospital operations, and in compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations.

Technical Requirements

• Compliance with CIDB grading: ME / EB.
• Use of materials that conform to SABS/SANS standards.
• Proper disposal of waste materials and debris, with disposal certificates issued upon request.
• Adherence to the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) and Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations.
• Provision of all necessary tools, equipment, and safety gear by the contractor.
• Inspection and testing of the refrigeration system before handover to ensure proper operation.
• Guarantee of workmanship and supplied spares for 12 months.
• Compliance with environmental and safety protocols, including PPE, site cordoning, and safety documentation.

Skills Requirements

• Qualified refrigeration technicians with proven experience in repairing cold rooms and refrigeration systems.
• Certified artisans or technicians familiar with SABS/SANS standards and South African health and safety regulations.
• Capability to perform system re-gassing, component replacement, and system testing.
• Ability to work in a hospital environment with minimal operational disruption.
• Competence in site safety management, including PPE usage, site supervision, and safety documentation.
• Experience in waste disposal and environmental compliance related to refrigeration repairs.
