Objectives

The primary objective is to appoint a qualified contractor to perform after-service repairs on commercial kitchen appliances at Ladysmith Regional Hospital. The contract aims to restore critical food preparation equipment to fully operational standards using compliant materials and skilled labour, thereby ensuring uninterrupted hospital catering and patient meal services.

Scope of Work

The contract covers a strict four-week execution period commencing from official site handover. The contractor must supply all necessary labour and approved materials to diagnose, repair, or replace faulty components across multiple kitchen units. Work encompasses mechanical, electrical, and welding tasks, followed by mandatory comprehensive site cleanup. A twelve-month guarantee applies to all completed work and installed materials. Financial terms mandate that no partial payments will be issued; reimbursement occurs only after total project completion and formal acceptance by hospital maintenance personnel. Delays beyond the agreed timeline incur daily penalties calculated at the current prime interest rate.

Technical Requirements

All repairs must adhere strictly to original manufacturer specifications and national safety standards. Specific technical tasks include:

• Replacing pilot lights, wheels, capacitors, thermostats, and emergency stop mechanisms.
• Cutting open, desludging, rewelding, and pressure-testing oil jacket pots.
• Installing new heating elements, circuit breakers, and mechanical adjusting systems.
• Replacing wear components such as peel stones, water inlet valves, tray adjusters, swivel gears, and conveyor belts.
• Upgrading electrical circuits (e.g., replacing 16A with 32A components) and installing missing drainage infrastructure.

All materials must undergo pre-installation inspection and written approval by the hospital’s maintenance department. Contractors must comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, SABS codes of practice, and relevant building regulations.

• Ability to coordinate closely with hospital maintenance personnel for material approvals, technical clarifications, and final sign-off.
