Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint professional service providers to deliver tree climbing services for the Research and Development centre in Sabie, specifically for harvesting cones at Wilgeboom Plantation. The service aims to support tree climbing and seed harvesting activities over a period of 42 days.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Provision of 4 trained tree climbers using non-spike methods (tree bicycles or push and pull method), with climbing certificates to be provided.
• Daily transportation of personnel to and from SAFCOL Wilgeboom plantation for 42 days.
• Tree climbing at heights ranging from 2 to 40 meters.
• Support for seed harvesting activities in a seed orchard.

The contractor must supply their own equipment and ensure all personnel are trained and certified in tree climbing safety standards.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Tree climbing using safe, non-spike methods with certificates demonstrating competence.
• Climbing at heights between 2 and 40 meters.
• Use of mandatory PPE, including anti-slip and vibration padding boots, goggles, wire mesh, and gloves (where applicable).
• Provision of all necessary tools and equipment, supplied by the contractor.
• Compliance with safety, health, environmental, and quality standards such as SAFCOL SHEQ standards, NOSA, FSC principles, and relevant South African legislation.

Skills Requirements

Applicants must possess:

• Valid tree climbing training certificates covering the fundamentals of tree climbing as per SAQA119692 short course.
• Experience in tree climbing and cone harvesting, demonstrated through relevant reference letters on company letterhead.
• Ability to work safely at heights ranging from 2 to 40 meters.
• Drivers must hold valid Driver’s Licenses and Professional Driving Permits (PrDP).
