Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for the cleaning of gardens and grounds at St Francis Hospital. The aim is to ensure hygienic, well-maintained outdoor areas through professional gardening and groundskeeping services.

Scope

The scope includes comprehensive garden and grounds maintenance activities such as:

• Garden area maintenance within the defined property boundary
• Mowing of grassed areas and nature strips
• Removal of rubbish and debris from all areas
• Sweeping pathways, gutters, and driveways
• Trimming and pruning of trees and shrubs, including overhanging branches
• Removal and replacement of fallen or dead trees/shrubs/plants (upon request)
• Weeding and weed control in all garden beds and surrounding areas
• Removal of garden refuse on a weekly basis
• Tree work including pruning and clearance
• Car park and pathway maintenance, including weed control and cleaning
• Mulching of garden beds and landscaped areas
• Site clean-up and debris removal during and after works
• Perimeter fence maintenance, including weed and vine control
• Adherence to safety and environmental standards during all activities

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that:

• All work must conform to the specifications provided, including quality standards approved by SABS.
• Garden maintenance must be carried out according to the detailed scope, including grass height, edging, pruning, and weed control standards.
• Tools and equipment used must be listed, with proof of market-related quotations, and maintained in good working condition.
• All activities must comply with health and safety regulations, including the use of PPE and adherence to Job Safety Analyses (JSA).
• All garden refuse and debris must be removed from the site weekly, following municipal waste management protocols.
• Site inspections, safety measures, and environmental standards must be strictly observed.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Experience in professional gardening, groundskeeping, and landscape maintenance
• Qualified personnel trained in the safe operation of tools such as chainsaws, trimmers, and other machinery
• Ability to prepare and submit Job Safety Analyses and Material Safety Data Sheets
• Competence in tree pruning, shrub shaping, and weed control according to environmental and safety standards
• Capacity to manage waste removal, mulching, and site clean-up efficiently
• Knowledge of municipal bylaws and environmental regulations relevant to grounds maintenance
• Proven track record of delivering similar services in healthcare or public facilities
