Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a qualified service provider to design, supply, fabricate, deliver, and install a fabric canopy structure at uShaka Marine World, specifically replacing the existing canopy over the Sea Animal Encounter Island. The project aims to ensure a fully functional, compliant, and durable canopy structure that meets the specified design and safety standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Design and engineering of the fabric canopy structure, ensuring it accommodates all functional and safety requirements.
• Supply of all materials, including structural framework, fabric membrane (UV-resistant, waterproof, fire-retardant), fixings, and accessories.
• Fabrication of the canopy components.
• Site preparation and civil works necessary for installation.
• Installation of the fabric canopy structure at the designated site.
• Quality assurance, testing, and commissioning of the installed structure.
• Provision of handover documentation and warranty coverage.

The project involves replacing the previous canopy over the Sea Animal Encounter Island, with an estimated size of 19m x 17m, and includes all associated civil, structural, and safety considerations.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications for the project include:

• Design must ensure structural integrity and accommodate environmental factors such as wind and load capacity.
• Materials must be new, defect-free, and compliant with relevant standards, including UV resistance, waterproofing, and fire retardancy for the fabric membrane.
• Fabrication must adhere to approved engineering drawings and standards.
• Site preparation must include civil works and anchor point refurbishment if necessary.
• Installation must follow safety regulations, including Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993, and ensure minimal disruption.
• Provide quality assurance, testing, and commissioning to verify structural and safety compliance.
• Handover must include all relevant documentation, warranties, and compliance certificates.
• State any exclusions, such as previous installation details or refurbishment of steel works, if applicable.

Skills Requirements

The service provider must demonstrate:

• Experience in designing, fabricating, and installing fabric canopy structures, particularly steel and canvas covers.
• Proven track record with similar projects, supported by reference letters on client letterhead, signed and dated.
• Capability to undertake civil works and site preparation, including anchor point refurbishment if needed.
• Knowledge of relevant safety standards and regulations, including Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993.
• Qualified personnel with expertise in structural engineering, fabric membrane technology, and construction supervision.
• Ability to provide quality assurance, testing, and commissioning services.
• Compliance with all legal and procurement requirements, including tax compliance and supply chain management practices.
