Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to solicit quotations for the repair and upgrading of aluminium doors at Christ the King Hospital, including the main kitchen, lecture hall, and veranda cover at the Physio Department. The aim is to ensure quality repairs that meet specified standards, with minimal disruption to hospital operations, and to select a suitable contractor based on compliance, capacity, technical specifications, and price.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses:

• Removal of existing aluminium doors, handles, locks, and associated hardware.
• Supply and installation of new aluminium doors, windows, handles, locks, cabin hooks, door stoppers, and aluminium strips.
• Alterations including reconditioning existing aluminium doors by resizing and fitting new stiles.
• Replacement of glass panels and glazing in windows and doors.
• Provision of ironmongery, including locks, hinges, and handles, with specified finishes.
• Execution of electrical work related to door and window alterations, ensuring compliance with standards.
• Adherence to health and safety regulations, site visits, and site-specific conditions.

The work is to be carried out on-site at Christ the King Hospital, with a contract period of six weeks from site handover, and a minimum guarantee period of three months for materials and structural work.

Technical Requirements

• Compliance with South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) and South African National Standards (SANS) specifications for materials and glazing.
• Use of heavy-duty, industrial-grade aluminium and approved hardware.
• Installation of aluminium windows and doors with proper sealing against draughts, water, and dust.
• Reconditioning existing aluminium doors by resizing and fitting new stiles, ensuring proper anodising and finishing.
• Provision of laminated safety glass (4mm thick) in windows and glazed door panels, with manufacturer’s markings.
• Adherence to health and safety standards, including risk assessments and site protection measures.
• Compliance with CIDB regulations, requiring at least a 1GB registration for contractors.
• Proper installation of ironmongery, including locks, hinges, and handles, with specified finishes (chrome, satin chrome, anodised).
• All work to be completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and standards, with proper site cleanup and debris removal.

Skills Requirements

• Proven experience in aluminium door and window installation, repairs, and reconditioning, supported by project completion certificates and appointment letters.
• Technical expertise in aluminium fabrication, anodising, glazing, and hardware fitting, compliant with SABS and SANS standards.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations, including risk assessments and site safety protocols.
• CIDB registration with a minimum of 1GB grade or higher.
• Capability to execute electrical work related to door and window alterations, ensuring compliance with electrical standards.
• Effective site management skills to minimize disruption and ensure quality workmanship.
• Good communication skills for coordination with hospital staff and adherence to site safety and operational protocols.
