Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to design and construct durable, safe, and efficient pavement surfaces for the parking lot and walkways at Transnet Port Terminal Pier 1. The project aims to enhance operational safety, traffic flow, and pedestrian accessibility within the terminal, supporting the smooth and reliable movement of vehicles and personnel.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Site inspection, survey, and ground condition verification
• Site clearing, tree removal, and disposal of debris in compliance with environmental regulations
• Excavation, grading, and preparation of subgrade and subbase layers
• Installation of geotextile fabric (if necessary), aggregate base, prime/tack coats, and concrete/asphalt pavement
• Surface finishing, striping, signage, and installation of stormwater drainage systems
• Construction of pedestrian walkways with chain-linked bollards and proper lighting
• Restoration of the site post-construction, including landscaping and drainage management
• Provision of safety measures, project planning, and quality control throughout the project

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements specify that:

• The contractor shall perform site surveys and confirm ground conditions before construction
• All excavation, grading, and compaction must meet specified standards
• Materials used (e.g., aggregate, concrete, asphalt) must be of original OEM quality and approved by Transnet
• Proper drainage systems must be installed to prevent water pooling and erosion
• Surface markings and signage should be weather-resistant and reflective
• Construction activities must not disturb ongoing terminal operations
• A project plan (Gantt Chart) must be submitted prior to work commencement
• Warranty of at least 12 months on workmanship is required
• All safety and quality control measures must be adhered to, including PPE and traffic management

Skills and Skills Requirements

The tender requires the contractor to demonstrate:

• Experience in constructing port or industrial pavements, with at least 3 similar projects completed with traceable references
• Qualified personnel with relevant civil engineering or construction certifications, including expertise in site survey, excavation, compaction, and pavement installation
• Proficiency in environmental compliance, including tree removal and debris disposal
• Capability to install drainage systems, signage, and safety barriers
• Ability to prepare and submit detailed project plans and schedules (Gantt Charts)
• Proven safety record and implementation of comprehensive safety plans
• Knowledge of port security protocols and experience working within port environments
• Compliance with legal, safety, and quality standards as specified by Transnet and relevant authorities
