Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure services for the repair and refurbishment of the shuttle sheaves and associated components on the shiploader at Transnet Port Durban BBC Terminals. This includes ensuring the sheaves are properly maintained, bearings are replaced, wire ropes are replaced and tensioned, and electrical components are upgraded, all in compliance with safety and technical standards.

Scope

The scope of work encompasses:

• Conducting electrical lock-outs and mechanical securing of the shuttle.
• Slackening, removing, and load testing wire ropes and shackles.
• Removing and refurbishing sheaves, shafts, and bearings, including fabricating new shafts if necessary.
• Lubricating and reinstalling sheaves, shafts, and locking plates.
• Replacing worn sheaves with new ones (provision for 2 new sheaves).
• Replacing bearings in the equaliser beam pivot.
• Replacing wire ropes and tensioning them appropriately.
• Upgrading electrical sockets and connectors on the Jetslinger platform.
• Adhering to safety procedures and operational standards throughout the process.

Technical Requirements

The technical specifications include:

• Sheave outer diameter approximately 410mm with 80mm thickness.
• Shaft dimensions: 80mm diameter and 170mm length.
• Wire ropes: galvanised steel, 150m length, 16mm diameter, 6 x 36 IWRC strands, suitable for Thyssenkrupp shiploader shuttle hoist.
• Load testing of shackles (29mm Dee shackles with 32mm pins, SWL 9500kg) and rigging screws (SWL 9390kg).
• Replacement of electrical sockets: 4x 1kV, 660A, IP68 Powerlock sockets and male connectors.
• Compliance with Transnet general specifications and safety standards (EEAM-Q-006, EEAM-Q-008).

Skills Requirements

The tender requires the following skills and qualifications:

• Certified technical personnel with expertise in mechanical and electrical repairs of shiploader components.
• Personnel certified to operate relevant equipment and tools.
• Qualified safety officers and supervisors with relevant training (e.g., fall protection, rescue, working at heights).
• Experience in conducting load testing, bearing replacement, shaft fabrication, and electrical upgrades.
• Competency certificates and proof of training for elevated work, rescue, safety harnesses, and other relevant safety procedures.
• Ability to prepare and implement risk assessments, method statements, and safe work procedures specific to the scope of work.
• Knowledge of compliance with OHS Act, Department of Labour regulations, and Transnet safety standards.
