Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to engage a qualified service provider to perform load testing on the structural components of ZPMC Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes at the Durban Container Terminal. The testing aims to ensure the structural integrity, safety, and operational readiness of the cranes and associated equipment.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Load testing of the crane structure, service hoist, hoist hook assembly, reeving winch, jib arms, and runway beams.
• Executing load tests at specified Safe Working Loads (SWL) and at 110% SWL, using water bags and other equipment provided by the contractor.
• Inspection of sheaves, sling hooks, shackles, and ropes during testing.
• Testing of jib arms at 125% SWL and runway beams at 110% SWL.
• Ensuring all tests are conducted in accordance with detailed procedures and safety standards.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements include:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in load testing of Ship-to-Shore and Rail Cranes.
• Provision of a comprehensive quality control plan relevant to load testing activities.
• All equipment used must be calibrated and in good operational condition, with certificates submitted.
• Staff qualifications relevant to load testing activities.
• Execution of load tests as per detailed procedures, including specific SWL and testing conditions.
• Provision of detailed reports on test results, including mass of test loads, date, and test outcomes.
• Compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards during testing.
• Experience in load testing of similar cranes, supported by references and track record documentation.

Skills Requirements

The successful bidder must demonstrate:

• Extensive experience in load testing of large port cranes, specifically Ship-to-Shore cranes.
• Technical expertise in crane structural assessment, load testing procedures, and safety protocols.
• Qualified personnel with relevant certifications and training in load testing and crane inspection.
• Ability to prepare and implement a detailed quality control plan.
• Proficiency in documenting and reporting test results accurately and comprehensively.
• Capability to coordinate with Transnet’s operations and adhere to scheduled timelines.
