Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure infusion pumps that meet specified technical standards for use in healthcare settings, ensuring reliable patient care, safety, and compliance with national standards. The procurement aims to acquire equipment capable of supporting adult, paediatric, and neonatal applications, with features such as accurate infusion control, safety alarms, and compatibility with existing hospital infrastructure.

Scope

The scope encompasses the supply, delivery, installation, commissioning, and end-user training of infusion pumps at Newcastle Regional Hospital. The equipment must conform to detailed technical specifications, standards (SABS & SANS approved), and safety requirements. The contract includes optional accessories, spare parts, and maintenance support for a minimum of 10 years post-delivery, with provisions for training and technical support.

Technical Requirements

• Infusion pumps must support adult, paediatric, and neonatal use with flow rates up to 1500 ml/hr and accuracy within ±3% to ±5%.
• Devices must include data logging for up to 1500 events, safety features such as anti-free flow clips, occlusion detection, customizable drug limits, and alarms for various fault conditions.
• Power supply must operate from 220V ±10%, 50Hz mains with an internal rechargeable Li-ion battery capable of at least 6 hours operation at 125 ml/h.
• Equipment must have a monochrome LCD display, be CE certified, and comply with IEC 60601-1 safety standards.
• Infusion sets and accessories must be included, with options for additional accessories listed separately.
• Equipment must be capable of delivering preset volumes with accuracy better than ±5%, with safety features preventing unauthorized changes during infusion.
• Alarm systems must include audible warnings for conditions such as air in line, occlusion, low battery, and completion of infusion volume.
• Maintenance, calibration, and software updates must be supported, with manuals and training provided by the supplier.
• Guarantee/Warranty period of at least 24 months, with provisions for maintenance and repairs during and after the warranty period.

Skills Requirements

• Qualified technical personnel with manufacturer-certified training in the maintenance, calibration, and repair of infusion pumps.
• Availability of a well-established service and repair facility within KwaZulu-Natal, capable of providing prompt support (within 24 hours).
• Trained in the installation, commissioning, and end-user training of the equipment, including demonstration of operation and troubleshooting.
• Ability to supply comprehensive manuals, software, spare parts, and ongoing technical support for at least 10 years.
• Experience in handling hospital-grade medical equipment, with proven capacity to deliver and support similar installations.
