Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to carry out repairs to the K18 counterweight structure at Transnet Port Terminal Richards Bay, specifically to restore structural integrity, improve operational efficiencies, and prevent major damages or failures of the conveyor system. The repairs aim to ensure continued safe and efficient material handling operations, particularly for chrome loading at GP03 Shed.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Assessment and repair of the rusted and deteriorated counterweight structure of K18 conveyor.
• Provision of all resources, labor, tools, and materials necessary for the repair works.
• Compliance with specified standards and specifications, including structural steel work, corrosion protection, and quality management.
• Conducting necessary testing and commissioning to ensure the conveyor operates correctly post-repair.
• Providing warranties and guarantees for a minimum of 12 months on all supplied materials and workmanship.
• Adhering to safety, health, environment, risk, and quality (SHERQ) requirements, including site inductions and safety permits.

Technical Requirements

• All structural repairs must conform to Transnet Port Terminals Standard Specifications (e.g., EEAM-Q-006 for structural steel, EEAM-Q-008 for corrosion protection, EEAM-Q-009 for quality management).
• The repair process must include cleaning, rust removal, welding, and painting as per specifications.
• Use of approved materials and adherence to safety standards during execution.
• Provision of detailed documentation, including repair methodology, quality control, and safety compliance.
• Completion of testing, load testing, and commissioning before handover.
• Attendance at a compulsory site induction and safety training prior to commencement.
• Provision of warranties and guarantees for a minimum of 12 months on all work and materials supplied.

Skills and Skills Requirements

• Proven experience in structural steel repairs, fabrication, and welding, with evidence of completed projects of similar scope and size (e.g., purchase orders of above R300K in the past 3 years).
• CIDB grading of at least 1SL or higher, demonstrating capability in structural repairs and fabrication.
• Qualified and experienced personnel in welding (Gas Metal Arc Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding), corrosion protection, and structural steel work.
• Ability to interpret technical specifications and standards related to structural steel and corrosion protection.
• Competence in safety management, including site safety inductions, permits, and compliance with health and safety legislation.
• Capability to provide technical documentation, quality assurance, and warranties.
• Experience in working within port or industrial environments, with adherence to safety and operational protocols.
