Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure a service provider for a once-off comprehensive service and repair of building elevators at Transnet Soc Limited, operating as Transnet Port Terminal (TPT) Pier 1 Container Terminal. The scope includes testing, replacement of parts, and ensuring the elevators are operational and safe post-service.

Scope

The scope of work, detailed in Annexure A, involves:

• Performing a one-time service and repairs on two elevators located in the Bhekulwandle building at Durban Container Terminal (DCT) Pier 1.
• Provision and installation of spare parts as needed.
• Inspection and testing of elevator components including traction systems, door motors, gears, locks, rollers, lamps, guide shoes, and related sundry components.
• Repairs and/or replacements of enclosures, handrails, mirrors, buttons, rusted or corroded parts, and other components to ensure safety and functionality.
• Ensuring the equipment and surrounding areas are made good and safe before leaving the site, with proper documentation signed by technicians and facilities personnel.

Technical Requirements

The technical scope includes:

• Inspection of elevators according to SABS 1545-10 or 1543 specifications, in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations.
• Use of registered Lift Machinery Inspectors (LMI) for inspections and sign-offs.
• Replacement and repair of specific elevator assemblies such as traction ropes, door motors, lamps, rollers, bearings, and guide shoes.
• Protection of equipment from damage during work, with prompt repairs of any damages caused.
• Adherence to all relevant legislation including Occupational Health and Safety Act, Environmental Management Act, and Engineering Council standards.
• Compliance with safety standards, site induction, and access protocols for Durban Container Terminal Pier 1.

Skills Requirements

The service provider must demonstrate:

• Proven experience in elevator servicing and repairs, with at least three references for electronics equipment service, not older than three years.
• Warranty provisions: 12 months for workmanship and 2 months for supplied components, documented in signed company letters.
• Technician registration as a Lift Machinery Inspector (LMI) with valid certification.
• Compliance with safety and occupational health standards, including site-specific safety induction and proper PPE usage.
• Legal and regulatory compliance, including tax registration, BBBEE status, and adherence to all applicable laws and policies.
