Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to prevent the transmission of microorganisms that might be carried by pests to human beings within Ngwelezane Hospital. This involves maintaining an effective, ongoing pest control service to ensure a safe environment and reduce infection hazards associated with pests.

Scope

The scope of the contract includes routine pest control services across various hospital facilities, including internal and external residential areas, staff residences, clinics, and associated premises. The service covers all pests such as rats, mice, mosquitoes, cockroaches, lice, ants, moths, larvae, fish moths, and other vectors. The contractor may also be requested for one-off treatments for specific pests like wood borer, termites, bees, and snakes, as needed. Installation and monthly servicing of bait stations are also included within the scope.

Technical Requirements

• The pest control service provider must be registered under the Fertilizers, Farm Feeds, Agricultural Remedies and Stock Remedies Act, 1947 (Act 36 of 1947), with a valid registration certificate and P number.
• The provider must conduct a full assessment of the facility, provide a detailed report on findings, infestation sources, vectors, and control measures.
• The service must include supply of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all pesticides used, and full compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act during treatment.
• Use registered pesticides with an L number, appropriate for the identified vectors and areas.
• Display notices of treatment prior to application and provide a certificate of treatment with details such as date, areas treated, chemicals used, and emergency contacts.
• Follow-up treatments should be scheduled regularly (e.g., every 4-6 weeks) as per the treatment plan.
• The contractor must give a service schedule to IPC/Systems for dissemination to relevant departments.
• All services must be performed during working hours (07:00 to 16:00).

Skills Requirements

• Registered pest control operator with valid certification and P number.
• Knowledge of pest identification, vector modeling, and control strategies.
• Ability to conduct full assessments, prepare detailed reports, and recommend appropriate treatment plans.
• Experience in handling registered pesticides safely, including MSDS management.
• Good communication skills to coordinate with hospital staff and IPC/Systems.
• Understanding of relevant legislation, including the Fertilizers Act and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
