Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to design, supply, and install a fail-safe braking system (K51 Tripper Car Fail Safe Braking System) at Richards Bay for Transnet SOC Ltd, operating as Transnet Port Terminals. The project aims to ensure reliable and safe operation of the K51 tripper car by implementing an effective braking system that meets safety and technical standards.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Design of the K51 tripper car fail-safe braking system
• Supply of all necessary components and materials
• Installation of the braking system at the Richards Bay facility
• Commissioning and testing to ensure system functionality and safety compliance

This is a once-off supply project, with specific deliverables outlined in the technical and project plans.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements focus on the integration of mechanical and electrical/control systems, including:

• Mechanical engineering expertise in mechanical integration of braking systems
• Electrical/control systems engineering competency, with proven experience in SCADA and PLC-based control environments
• Development of a detailed method statement demonstrating understanding of scope, step-by-step execution plan, and quality assurance procedures
• Provision of a project plan with key milestones, durations, and completion timelines (preferably within six months)
• Submission of traceable references for similar work completed in the past seven years
• Completion timeframe not exceeding seven months
• Adherence to relevant standards and standards awareness demonstrated through professional affiliations

Skills Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate the following skills and qualifications:

• Proven experience in mechanical integration of braking systems
• Electrical or Mechatronics engineering qualification (National Diploma or Degree)
• Experience with SCADA and PLC control systems
• Ability to develop comprehensive method statements and project plans
• Traceable references for similar projects completed within the last seven years
• Membership in relevant engineering associations (e.g., SAIMechE, SAIEE, or international equivalents) to demonstrate current industry knowledge and standards adherence
