Objectives

The primary objective of this tender is to procure rigging and crane hire services for Tippler 01 and associated route at Transnet Port Terminals, Richards Bay. The services are required to support maintenance, repair, and operational activities during an annual shutdown period, ensuring safety and reliability in handling bulk commodities and heavy components.

Scope

The scope of work includes:

• Provision of rigging and crane hire services for Tippler 01 and the chrome route during the 2026 annual shutdown at Port Rail Terminal, Richards Bay.
• Work on components such as shafts, clamps, spillage plates, brake calipers, hopper grids, hydraulic cylinders, motors, conveyor belts, pulleys, bearings, drive systems, and structural repairs.
• Ensuring safety during maintenance activities like belt splicing, pulley replacement, hydraulic repairs, structural repairs, and component replacements.
• Services to be delivered over a period of 14 days, 16 hours per day (from 06:00 to 22:00), including site establishment and spares movement.

Technical Requirements

The technical scope includes:

• Rigging and crane services for heavy components, including shafts, pulleys, hydraulic systems, conveyor belts, and structural elements.
• Use of trucks (15 and 30 ton), bosun chairs (500 kg SWL), and other lifting equipment.
• Compliance with relevant standards such as SANS 687, SANS 500:2009, SANS 10388:2008, SANS 94-1:2003, SANS 94-2:2003, SANS 2408:2005, SANS 1636:2007, SANS 1594:2007, ISO 3056:1986, SANS 7592:1983, and SANS 1592:2005.
• Adherence to Transnet’s health, safety, environmental, and quality management specifications (EEAM-Q-009, EEAM-Q-016, and others).
• Inspection, testing, and certification of lifting equipment and slings as per national and international standards.
• Implementation of safety measures, PPE use (including reflective vests), and site safety protocols.
• Security clearance for personnel and compliance with port security regulations.

Skills and Competency Requirements

• Qualified riggers with proof of certification (minimum of 3 qualified riggers; certificates from LEEASA preferred).
• Experience in rigging for major projects, with at least 2 purchase orders or work orders demonstrating experience valued at over R1 million.
• Proven ability to operate and supply cranes with capacities of at least 160 tons, 50 tons, and 8 tons, supported by certification or proof from reputable suppliers.
• Competence in handling heavy components, structural repairs, hydraulic systems, and conveyor maintenance.
• Knowledge of relevant safety standards, inspection, and testing procedures.
• Capability to mobilize and establish site operations efficiently, including spares management and site safety compliance.
• Security clearance and compliance with port security protocols.
