Objectives

To fabricate, inspect, and install three structural lifting beams (designated as CO2 crawl beams) on the moving head section of the Port Rail Terminal’s bulk handling system at Richards Bay. The primary objective is to enable safe maintenance, removal, and replacement of heavy terminal equipment while fulfilling statutory compliance and operational safety mandates.

Scope of Work

• Fabrication, supply, and installation of three lifting beams, including associated fasteners (e.g., M20 bolts and nuts) and curved beam components.
• Comprehensive inspections and supply/replacement of necessary parts to ensure structural integrity and operational readiness.
• Submission of a detailed methodology statement outlining work sequences, resource allocation, and task timelines throughout the repair period.
• Strict adherence to approved engineering parameters; any scope deviations require prior written authorization from the Engineering Manager.
• Exclusions: The supplier is not responsible for hiring or providing mobile cranes, rigging teams, or scaffolding.

Technical Requirements

• Full compliance with Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) engineering and quality standards, specifically:
  • Corrosion Protection: EEAM-Q-008
  • Quality Control: EEAM-Q-009
  • Structural Steelwork: HE9-2-6 (Ver. 9)
  • Additional applicable TPT specifications: EEAM-Q-006
• Maintenance of agreed project schedules with zero unplanned disruption to terminal operations. Any plant isolation or operational interruption requires explicit approval from the section supervisor.
• Implementation of rigorous health, safety, and environmental protocols, including mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as reflective vests and strict housekeeping standards.
• Site access limited to designated East and West gates, subject to Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) and TPT security clearance procedures.

Skills & Operational Requirements

• Proven expertise in structural steel fabrication, precision fitting, and heavy-lifting beam installation in industrial environments.
• Ability to develop and execute comprehensive methodology statements with clear milestone tracking and risk mitigation strategies.
• Strong working knowledge of corrosion protection treatments, welding standards, and structural quality control protocols aligned with TPT specifications.
• Experience operating within active port and rail terminals, demonstrating capacity to work safely alongside ongoing logistics operations.
• Competency in navigating port security protocols, coordinating with terminal supervisors for equipment isolation approvals, and maintaining strict environmental and housekeeping standards on-site.
